How Our Dry Transfer Letters Are Different from Letraset

How Do Our Custom Dry Transfers Differ from Letraset?

A vintage photo of a Letraset rub down lettering. Letraset transfers were a very popular replacement for letter stamp printing, which is replaced today by custom dry transfer letters.

We love those old style Letraset transfer lettering sheets

If you were a Letraset user back when they were popular, you are going to want to research our website and check out what is possible in the world of rubdown transfers now. In the past, when you had a project that required transfer lettering you’d have to take a trip over to the local art store and choose a font from the spinning display of Letraset sheets. Then you’d have only one choice left, to choose between black type and white type. Then you would hope the art store had enough sheets on hand for you to purchase and finish your project.

Now with the option of ordering custom dry transfers online, the possibilities for Letraset customization are endless.
Image Transfers creates custom dry transfer letters to your precise specifications or when needed, we can create the artwork for you.

There are many benefits to ordering our custom dry transfer letters vs. stock sheets of Letraset lettering (if you can find any around)

Our dry transfers are freshly made.

Since they haven’t been sitting on the shelf for months, ours rub down evenly without much effort. Fresh adhesive helps them adhere easily and fresh ink doesn’t crack or peel.

These are custom dry transfers made from your artwork.

You are not limited to a specific font, size or color. The only limitation is that your artwork needs to be in“vector” format (i.e. in Adobe Illustrator or similar format). If you need help with creating vector artwork we have graphic artists on staff that can assist you. We are always happy to discuss an upcoming project and offer guidance.

You are not limited to the Letraset size slick.

We have three size sheets for you to choose from. You can gang up or repeat your artwork in letter-size, 11”x14” or even tabloid size. For custom Letraset orders. Just leave enough room around your images for you to cut them apart before applying.

No more struggling to line up letters individually.

Letraset was just an alphabet sheet with a set of numbers. When you order custom dry transfers with us you will be able to apply a whole logo or even a whole paragraph to your custom Letraset order in the style you want. With our custom Letraset sheets, there are no worries about leading or kerning.

Color choice is not a problem.

We can provide custom dry transfer decals in an almost infinite choice of colors. We match our colors to the Pantone Graphic palette and can even offer foils matching the Crown Roll Leaf or Kurz palettes. If that isn’t enough customization, you can send us a swatch and our production artists will mix ink to match that as well. As an example of the possibilities, we have even gone so far as matching Benjamin Moore’s paint swatches.

No more running to a store for Letraset Transfers.

No searching for “off the shelf” products that are complementary to your project. With Image Transfers, it is extremely easy to order dry transfer letters. All you need to do is drag and drop your artwork at imagetransfers.com and we will ship back a finished custom transfer usually in 24 hours.

The possibilities are endless. Give our studio a call at (212) 928-7987 or email us at art@imagetransfers.com about your next project. We are always happy to do provide some assistance and guide you through the process.

Image Transfers are custom dry rub-on transfer specialists. We make only one thing: custom rub down transfers for graphic designers, artists, and model-makers. A dry transfer (or rubdown) is an image printed on a translucent sheet. The image has a coating of adhesive on its back. The image is transferred from the translucent sheet onto another surface by applying light pressure in a rubbing motion. The dry transfer can be applied to any surface that is free of dust, grease or oil. Dry transfers are referred to as DRY because they are applied dry, without the use of water or solvents. A dry transfer is not a slip-off label or a water decal, instead, the transferred image appears as if it was printed directly onto the item. Our dry transfers are opaque because we back the colors with white, so our rubdowns can be applied to a surface of any color without changing the color of the rub-on transfer. We consider dry transfers a semi-permanent application. A top coat of clear lacquer can make them more permanent. Our production artists can match all Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors including Metallic. Standard transfers are semi-gloss but we also offer matte and uncoated finishes. We deliver within as little as 24 hours. -- Specialties: Custom Rub Down Dry Transfers, Art Gallery Signage & Museum Labels, Custom Transfers for Product Prototypes, Comps & Mock-ups, Dry Transfers for Scale Models. Decals for Glass and reversed transfer decals for inside glass cases.

    Hi-
I am trying to find sheets or tape of dry transfer registration marks. I use to get these from Letraset. The product #83-107 (554)
I need these for large art projects with clear layers that need to line up.
I can only find letter transfer sheets.

    Thank you for any help!

    • Luann says:

Lucinda, Our transfers are “custom” so we can create transfers from ANY art in almost any color. I know exactly what you are looking for, being old school and having done mechanicals and paste-up. Our pricing goes by size area with letter being our smallest size. Happy to gang up a bunch of register marks for you if you want to order. Call our studio at (212) 928-7987 or email at art@imagetransfers.com for more information.

    Hi there,
I am trying to locate a sheet of numbers from 1-12 with the numbers measuring 15mm high. Is this possible please and how much will this cost? I would buy multiple sheets if the price is right. To be posted to Kent.

    • Luann says:

Jeanette, Since our transfers are custom, with no off the shelf stock, we can create any art you would like to provide so yes we can do numbers 1-12 measuring 15mm high. Most clients create art, gang it up into one of our size areas, and upload to our website. If you need help with art we can do that for an additional charge. Pricing is published on our website with 1/color US size letter size sheet at $175.00. I hope we can work on this project with you.

I have an art piece that I would like to put on my motorcycle, and the air brush artist suggested this instead of him spending 2 weeks to create it. So I just need to send it to you in Vector format? I think about a 14″ radius is the size of the piece I need.

    • Luann says:

Gloria, We would need vector artwork for our transfer process. If you want to send to art@imagetransfers.com we can see if it something we can produce for you. If you are going to apply to your motorcycle, after applying the transfer, you would need to coat it with clear lacquer to make it durable. We look forward to seeing your artwork.

I’m building a kit guitar and am looking for image transfers that will replicate Fender’s distinctive logo font. The idea is to have a faux-Fender rendering of ‘Matt-o-caster’ fixed to the headstock where a the Fender logo would normally go.

I this something you can provide?

    • Luann says:

Matt, Our transfers are “custom” so it is possible for us to create logo art similar to Fender but we would have to be careful not to reproduce it but create something that complements it. Transfer costs are published right on our website. Creating artwork would be an additional fee. Write to us at art@imagetransfers.com with some more details and we would be happy to quote this entire job for you.

I have a celestial photo (Earth and Moon) that I’d like to hang above my fireplace. On it I’d like
to apply the words… “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”. The type style
I’d like to use would be Times Roman Bold Italic. The letter height would be 2.5 inches. The color
would be white. Can you do this, and what would the cost be?

    Thank you.

  6. Frank Morrell says:

What type of finishes can be applied over your transfers? Any help is appreciated.

    • Luann says:

Frank, Our transfers are lacquer ink with lacquer adhesive. Our clients have successfully used clear lacquer spray over transfers for a more permanent solution. After clear lacquer we have had clients use epoxy and other finishes as final coats. Happy to send you some samples if you want to email your snail mail address to our art@imagetransfers.com address.

  7. Jim says:

I would like to discuss price and capabilities with you.

    • Luann says:

Jim, Pricing is published right on our website and goes by “size area.” Most clients gang-up/repeat their artwork to fill the artboard. We can offer colors in the Pantone Graphic palette, metallics and FOILS and our turnaround is 24 to 48 hours. Best file format is vector art. Happy to answer more questions. Feel free to call the studio at (212) 928-7987 or email us at art@imagetransfers.com for more info.

  8. Richard Gardner says:

Am I reading this correctly. you can create transfers from my artwork. I have been struggling to find a way of putting white text on a black carbon fiber sheet. I am wondering if you are able to produce something that I can use.
Basically I need some words done in 12 point font, plus some arrows and one small graphic label. Let me know if this is possible and if so what file type you need. I use Corel draw just for your awareness

    • Luann says:

Sorry for any delay in replying. Yes, we create custom dry transfers of client artwork. Vector artwork best file format. Gang-up/repeat artwork to fill one of our size areas because that is how our pricing is structured. Login, drag & drop art, choose color, choose FedEx and get an instant receipt. Turnaround is 24 to 48 hours. If you have further questions just call studio at (212) 928-7987. Hope we can work on a project with you.

  9. COUGET OCV Optical says:

    Hi
can i get from you Customsed LOGO transfer for advertising ?

  10. Nicole says:

How do you remove these from surfaces once you no longer want the image where you installed it?

    • Luann says:

Nicole, Our transfers are lacquer ink with lacquer adhesive. As for removal it depends on what surface you apply the transfers. Usually tacking off with painters tape. If they are on for a while try Bestine solution. Of course lacquer solvent will take them off because they are lacquer ink. Of course we suggest testing all these solutions on an inconspicuous spot. We don’t know all the possible removal issues but our clients have had good luck with this. Also since they are only the thickness of lacquer ink some clients opt to paint over them. We hope we have answered your questions and also hope we can work with you on a future project.

  11. Allan Mechen says:

I am looking for lettering to update an honours board. The font is ARIAL the size of letters is 15mm i require upper and lower case and the colour is Reflex blue. I have about six names and dates to add. Is this something you can supply. I have other honour boards to update from time to time, each with a different size, font and colour of lettering. If it would help I could send you a pic of the board from which to identify all the info i have mentioned.
    Thanks, Allan Mechen

    • Luann says:

We can certainly help you with this project but our pricing, which is published, is more geared for the industrial designer creating prototypes. If you can create the art (set all the names in the font and point size you want) you can probably order just one letter transfer and complete the project. Pricing is based on artboard size area. If you needed us to set up the copy as well that would be an additional cost. Thanks for your inquiry. Luann
